Trinidad and Tobago Smartphone Film Festival is a competition in which members of the public are invited to submit 5-minute short films, produced using only smartphone/ mobile device technology. The festival’s objectives include engaging the wider public – beyond traditional filmmakers and cinéastes – and encouraging them to participate in this new and trendy genre of filmmaking. FilmTT encouraged the creation of local content by creating an avenue for aspiring filmmakers who do not readily have access to high tech film equipment. In 2015, winners were entered into the Toronto Smartphone Film Festival. CreativeTT, FilmTT’s parent company also encouraged the development of local talent through a partnership with KnowledgeTT. This partnership facilitated training through online tutorial videos distributed through social media. This festival is open to all residing nationals and permanent residents of Trinidad and Tobago.
